Zoran Karic scored three goals and added four assists to lead the American All-Stars to a 23-15 victory over the National All-Stars in the NPSL all-star game Wednesday.
Karic, who scored a pair of two-pointers and a one-pointer, was named the game's most valuable player for his performance.
The Cleveland Crunch's Hector Marinaro, a native of Mississauga, Ont., and a four-time league MVP, added a pair of two-pointers and three assists for the American Conference.
Tarik Walker of the Baltimore Blast and Michael King of the Milwaukee Wave also scored a pair of two-pointers each, while Toronto native Gino DiFlorio of the Harrisburg Heat, teammate David Bascome and Mark Thomas of the Florida Thundercats added one-two pointer apiece one for the American All-Stars.
The loss spoiled the all-star coaching debut of the Edmonton Drillers' Ross Ongaro. Chris Handsor of the Drillers got two shots on goal but failed to score for the National All-Stars. Drillers goalkeeper Pat Onstad was named to the all-star team but did not play because of an injury.
Mark Moser of the St. Louis Ambush led the National All-Stars with four two-point goals. Teammate Ken Snow chipped in with a pair of two-pointers, and Dennis Brose of the Detroit Rockers added a two-pointer and a one-pointer. Peter Pappas of the Philadelphia Kixx played 30 minutes in net for the National All-Stars and was credited with the win. He shared goalkeeping duties with Victor Nogueira of the Milwaukee Wave.
