Canadian Hector Marinaro Jr., the all-time scoring leader in indoor soccer, was named most valuable player of the National Professional Soccer League for a record sixth time Thursday.
The Cleveland Crunch forward from Mississauga, Ont., won the league scoring title for the seventh time in eight seasons. He finished with 231 points despite missing six games through injury.
"Hector is one of those rare athletes who come along in a sport once a generation or so," said NPSL commissioner Steve Paxos.
Nikki Vignjevic of the Edmonton Drillers was sixth in the MVP voting.
Marinaro, a unanimous selection, made the first all-star team while Vignjevic and Edmonton teammate Todd Rattee were chosen to the second team.
